Service upgrade
Service upgrade electrical permit packet
Most electrical permits in Los Angeles are service upgrades — 100 A to 200 A, or 200 A to 400 A when the house goes all-electric. PermitPak treats the existing service size as an input, runs Article 220 on the loads that will remain, and drafts the one-line to the new main.
What the upgrade set has to show
Plan check wants the existing and proposed service, the calculated load that justifies the new size, and a single line that shows the new main, the meter, and every panel that stays. The utility also wants a planning sheet with voltage, overhead or underground, and conductor material.
PermitPak asks for those facts in the same order you would give them to an estimator. The calc recommends a service size from CEC 220; you can take the recommendation or set the amps yourself. The diagram and the utility form follow that number.
Existing-dwelling method when it applies
On additions and remodels the engine can use the existing-dwelling calculation instead of treating the house as new construction. That keeps the demand honest when you are adding an EV charger or a heat pump to a service that already exists.
What ships in the packet
Every job produces six 11×17 sheets: cover, general electrical notes, single line diagram, panel schedules, electrical load calculation, and utility service data. The title block carries your company, license, and revision history.
A residential set is $89. Multifamily and commercial are priced from unit count and floor area. Corrections and re-downloads stay free on that job.
