CEC 220
Electrical load calculation, cited line by line
The load calculation is the sheet plan check reads first. PermitPak runs the 2025 California Electrical Code (NEC 2023 base) and prints the method, the connected VA, the demand factor, and the code reference on every row.
Which method the engine is allowed to use
Occupancy and scope decide the method. Single-family new work can use the optional calculation in 220.82. Additions and service upgrades on an existing dwelling can use the existing-dwelling path. Multifamily uses 220.84 when the building qualifies. Commercial uses Parts III and IV from the occupancy and floor area.
You do not pick the method from a menu. The project data either qualifies or it does not. The cover and the calc sheet both name the method that was applied.
What appears on E-3.0
Each row shows the load, the connected volt-amperes, the demand factor, the demand VA, and the CEC section behind that factor. Lighting for dwellings still uses the square-foot method so fixture counts on the schedule are not double-counted in the service demand.
The same numbers feed the panel schedules and the recommended service size. If the service is too small, the review step says so before you generate the set.
