ADU

ADU electrical permit packet

An ADU is either a new dwelling on the same service or a new service of its own. The packet has to show how the accessory unit is fed, what lands on the house panel, and whether the existing main can take the extra demand.

Subpanel or new service

Most garage and backyard ADUs take a subpanel from the house. The set then needs a schedule for both panels, a feeder on the one-line, and a load calc that includes the ADU without double-counting the dwelling lighting.

When the ADU gets its own service, the packet is a full dwelling set on that address — optional or standard method, its own main, its own utility sheet. The cover still names the AHJ that will review it.

LA-area ADU plan check

LADBS, the Valley cities, and the County all want the same core sheets. What changes is the department name and the utility. Type the address; PermitPak fills LADWP, SCE, BWP, GWP, or PWP from the city.

What ships in the packet

Every job produces six 11×17 sheets: cover, general electrical notes, single line diagram, panel schedules, electrical load calculation, and utility service data. The title block carries your company, license, and revision history.

A residential set is $89. Multifamily and commercial are priced from unit count and floor area. Corrections and re-downloads stay free on that job.
